Hello lovely Batties,
Now for a topic close to my heart, (there is a serious side to me too!). I’m sure you’ve heard the story of a beach awash with stranded star fish and a man watching a child rushing about and throwing as many of them as he could back into the ocean. The man questioned the child’s actions as it was impossible to save all the star fish and wouldn’t make a difference. The child’s reply as he threw yet another star fish into the ocean, was, “It made a difference to that one!”
If, like me, you often feel overwhelmed by the state of the world and frustrated as to what you can do, I would like to suggest that you think about signing petitions. There are plenty doing the rounds on Face Book. In this country a petition needs:
10,000 signatures to get a response from the government,
100,000 signatures to be considered for debate in Parliament.
Every one of those signatures is vital and it is joyous when you get feedback that positive changes have been made as a result of the strength of a petition that you’ve signed. So if you are one of those people who just skips over petitions thinking they’re a waste of time, maybe you could take a peek next time and if you feel moved to, sign it. Heck, if you’re feeling really passionate about something you can even start one up yourself!! Happy petitioning!
