We are all familiar with the concept of ‘building our lives’. We usually look back over the past year or maybe even decade. We gauge how we’re doing by looking at how far we think we’ve come.
But what are we really building on? And what if on taking a truthful look we realise that we haven’t come as far as we’d first thought? You see, it’s not the events that happened way back when, it’s the stuff that’s happening now!
What were you thinking about before you started reading this article? Were you busy fretting over your inability to face a certain person/situation? Were you ruminating over how much weight you’ve gained or how awful you think your hair looks?
Stop right there! That last thought was the building block to your next one! Umm, not so good eh? I’m sensing a whiff of Pongitis! (see – A Touch of Pongitis 09 Jan 16) Actually, a bit more than a whiff, it’s everywhere!
Our thoughts are extremely powerful and lead us into emotional turmoil, bad decisions and wrong beliefs. So let’s make a concerted effort to be aware of our ‘inner speak’ and turn it into something kind and loving.
